Lh Surge Before Ovulation

Mary asks…

Liklihood of getting pregnant one day after ovulation?

I had sex within 24 hours of ovulation. What are the chances of me being pregnant?

Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:

It is always, always a good idea to have sex before ovulation occurs, due to the fact that the egg is only available for fertilization 24-48 hours, and having sex after your basal temp rises or an ovulation test is positive may be too late. Then again, if you’ve been taking ovulation tests, you can get ” ” this close to ovulating [when your LH surges] but then the follicle doesn’t release the egg, so your body immediately produces more LH and FSH in an attempt to reboot your ovulation process.

So, that said, your fertility is best charted by observing your cervical mucus and basal body temperature, and having sex when you notice watery or egg-white cervical fluid and your temperature rises consistently.

Good luck!

How do the ovulation kits really work?Do I take it one time for the month& it’ll tell me which days?

Or what do I do?

Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:

They detect the LH hormone surge that your body releases just before ovulation.

The kits you get from the stores have about 5-7 tests in them, and you start peeing on one test a day at about your 12-13th day of your cycle. Its easy to miss the day you ovulate, because most woman have cycles that dont fit into the 28 day, 14th day ovulation average.

Its easier of you just buy some ovulation test strips from a medical wholesaler on ebay (50 for 20 bucks) and pee on one EVERY DAY of your cycle for two cycles. THen you will know when you’re ovulating for sure.

Thats what I did. Works like a charm.

Once you get the positive result on the ovulation test, it means that your body is ripening and preparing to release and egg within the next 12-24 hours, and you should have sex within the next 24-36 hours (the egg is only viable for about 24-36 hours, and then it can no longer be fertalized).

Donna asks…

how does the ovulation kit work and do they really work?

do the ovulation kit really work? how effective are they?

Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:

An ovulation kit tests a woman’s urine for the presence of the luteinizing hormone (LH). Right before a woman ovulates, there is a surge of LH in her body. A woman will usually ovulate within three days of this hormone surge. Ovulation tests can absolutely determine when you are most fertile, but just because you track your ovulation does not necessarily mean you will get pregnant any sooner or at all. It took a friend of mine over 6 months to get pregnant even though she was tracking her ovulation with an OPK.

Maria asks…

Does anybody know good tricks on how to conceive a baby boy?

We already have girls so a boy is preferred.

Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:

If you want a girl… Have sex 2-3 days before your ovulation. If you want a boy… Have sex the day of ovulation. Research studies have shown that the sperm carrying the XX chromosome is slower, larger, and live longer than that of the XY. So… When the XY reach the fallopian tubes and there is no egg… They will die off. The best way to know when to have sex to conceive a boy (besides the BBT charting) is to buy an ovulation test… And NOT the saliva ones (try the Clearblue Ovulation tests or First Response). When you have your LH surge… Have sex about 11-12 hours later… It will increase your chances for a baby boy. Good luck!!

Susan asks…

How do ovulation tests work?

So I know how they work as in when you get a positive you will ovulate within 24 hours. When you get the first negative test after the positive does that mean u already ovilated or should I be baby dancing still every night?

Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:

Ok from what I’ve found is that it detects ur lh surge which happens 24 hours before ovulation so you should do the baby dance the day you get the positive and prolly the next day then every other day so your not messing with his sperm count. And no when you get the negative it just means your lh surge is done and ovulation is happening or fixing to…
